Additional information

This paper reports a system description language and its modelling method for systems engineering created during a research collaboration with partners Philips, Océ, Vanderlande Industries and ASML. Compared with existing languages, this has the advantage of combining high-level functional descriptions with low-level structural and behavioural information in a unified manner. The results improve communication between stakeholders, reducing errors and mistakes in architecting complex multi-disciplinary products (Frans Beenker, Director Industrial Programs, Embedded Systems Institute, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, frans.beenker@esi.nl). Currently the language is extended for professional use and being tested by ASML and Océ (Paul Hilkens, VP Research, Océ, The Netherlands, paul.hilkens@oce.com).
