Dr Charles Shaw-Smith held a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellowship at University of Cambridge (from 2006) prior to his appointment as a Consultant in Clinical Genetics at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in 2010. His appointment within the RD&E hospital provides for research time thereby allowing him to hold an Honorary Clinical Fellowship within University of Exeter Medical School. His objectives are to promote the early translation of genetic discoveries into clinical practice and, accordingly, Shaw-Smith works closely with colleagues in UoA1 (within the “Diabetes, Cardiovascular Risk & Aging” theme) to elucidate the genetics factors predisposing to disease. He contributes fully to the academic programme within this theme.
