Additional information

Addressed a major technical challenge in selective laser melting (SLM) of bio-ceramic (hydroxyapatite) with stainless steel matrix so that customised loading bearing bone implants can be produced. Offered a new implantation solution to deliver improved and elongated performance and significant benefits to patient. Resulted in an open research funding (2012-P02) from the China State Key Laboratory of Material Processing and Die & Mould Technology. Contributed to valuable knowledge for many other researchers to adopt SLM process to fabricate various ceramic reinforced metal matrix composites (e.g. Dr. Qingshong Wei, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, wqs_xn@mail.hust.edu.cn, has adopted SLM to make a dental implant for clinical trial).
