Additional information

This paper provided detailed empirical data and performance assessments about rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems, compared British Standard (BS 8515:2009) design methods with the industry practice and provided evidence that maintained RWH systems can offer up to 30% water and cost savings. The research findings were incorporated into the Urban Futures project (EPSRC, P/F007426/1), industry wide guidance ‘Designing Resilient Cities- A guide to good practice' (BRE report EP103) and Construction Industry Research Information Association (CIRIA) water professionals’ guidance (Report C690) for water planning in new developments (Paul Shaffer, paul.shaffer@ciria.org).
