This paper demonstrates that auxetic behaviour is not restricted to ordered solids –a very important result in terms of the practicality of manufacture. The findings have prompted other researchers to re-examine their modelling methods, notably those for materials or structures exhibiting manufacturing imperfections or damage in-service.
