Significance of output:

This agenda-setting paper provides a break-through demonstration a new optical imaging technology. It defies the common wisdom that resolution of optical imaging is limited by diffraction by demonstrating a new principle of super-lens that beats the resolution of conventional microscopes (several times over). The paper epitomizes the outcome of several years of a major pioneering UK research effort, from establishing theoretical foundations of the technology to real life demonstration. This work has led to two patent applications and promises to have a major impact on non-invasive biomedical imaging, nano-metrology and fabrication with light.
