Additional information

<22> This paper uses a decision support system and simulation to evaluate the effects of the various constraints upon the take-off runway at London Heathrow airport. These effects influence the best ways in which to improve the throughput and reduce delays at the airport, in order to gain both environmental and cost benefits. Important results showed that building a third runway would help, but restructuring the airspace or changing the take-off time-slot system would potentially have even more benefit. This high impact work was funded by NATS and EPSRC. Public Transport is a new journal published by Springer.
