Cartographies of culture: new geographies of Welsh writing in English
The monograph develops a particularly complex and layered conceptual model that combines and enhances bodies of knowledge across social theory, cultural and physical geography, cartography, literary theory, literary geography, hydrography, and visual culture (fine art, book illustrations, cartography itself) and relates it to a wide range of physical, cultural and linguistic ‘locations’ of literary works under scrutiny. The primary sources for the two central chapters (on Chamberlain) were particularly extensive and complex to disentangle, involving research into an archive consisting of thousands of individual items, including the identification of unpublished manuscripts and the recovery of privately-owned audio recordings.
