Additional information

<27>Understanding rules governing amorphous structures (graphene, amorphous-silicon, amorphous-metal) is essential for the design of advanced materials. However, finding rules in disorder is very difficult. We made a breakthrough discovery: local statistics should follow a universal distribution, we named 'k-Gamma'. Large-scale simulations and computed tomography demonstrate excellent agreement with predictions. After us, several groups worldwide (including Max Plank, ETH, Yale) discovered a wider than expected class of systems following k-Gamma distributions, from cosmetics to surface coatings. TA presented these results as keynote speaker at "Statistical mechanics of granular media" Lorentz Centre, Leiden 2009, and "Packing Problems" Trinity College Dublin 2012.
