Professor Pilz is a full-time employee of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and is currently holder of an Academic Health Sciences Collaboration award providing protected research time. She holds an Honorary Chair in Clinical Genetics conferred by Cardiff University by virtue of her outstanding contribution to research in the genetics of brain congenital malformation. This work is undertaken with international collaborators in Europe and the USA. Professor Pilz is being returned in UOA1 (clinical medicine) reflecting her focus on disease phenotype definition, molecular genetic mechanisms and development of genetic diagnosis for these disorders.

Professor Upadhyaya is a full time non-clinical employee of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and holds and Honorary Chair in Medical Genetics conferred by Cardiff University by virtue of her outstanding contribution to research in the genetics of human disease. She is Head of the NHS Research and Development Lab within the Institute of Medical Genetics. Her small research group is comprised principally of Cardiff University post-graduate students and undergraduate students undertaking placements in the NHS R&D setting. Her lab has hosted many visiting graduate students from overseas. Her research has been principally in the genetics of the inherited disorder neurofibromatosis (NF1), NF1-associated tumorigenesis and muscular dystrophies. She is being returned in UOA1 (clinical medicine) reflecting the focus of her research on the genetic mechanisms of disease and development of genetic diagnosis for these disorders.
