Additional information

This paper is a part of UCLA's programme developing re-innervation procedures as a therapy for vocal-fold paresis. Using an in-vivo canine model we applied stimulations to the laryngeal nerves; specialist apparatus devised at DMU and deployed by Eric Goodyer (DMU) measured real-time changes in shear modulus of the lamina propria. This demonstrates that DMU are engaged in a major study that could lead to new surgical procedures. This paper helped secure EPSRC Grant EP/E04087X/1 to continue the collaboration with UCLA.
