Axisymmetric whole pin life modelling of advanced gas-cooled reactor nuclear fuel
This paper details a finite element nuclear fuel pin performance code developed by Wenman. Work was carried out in collaboration with EDF Energy and validated against their long standing 1.5D fuel performance code ENIGMA. The work models a full AGR fuel pin in 2/3D incorporating new physical models rather than using empirical correlations. Led to a follow-on EPSRC first grant(EP/J017574/1) with a £25K contribution from EDF Energy and a CASE PhD(2014), (£45K from EDF Energy) to expand the work, which has the potential to change fuel operating procedures (mike.mooney@edf-energy.com) and be expanded to other reactor fuel types.
