Additional information

This is the first ever comparison between High Performance Counter-current Chromatography (HPCCC, the new liquid-liquid technology) and Preparative High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC, the liquid-solid state-of-the-art) for an industrial scale application. It showed the new technology used less than a third of the solvent and had more that 3 times the throughput of HPLC. It also demonstrated 44x loading with 17.5x the run time resulting in only 14 runs/kg compared to 460 with preparative HPLC. HPCCC clearly offers significant solvent cost savings and has since been effectively used by industry for a number of unpublished contract separations of new drugs.
