<20> This paper was awarded honourable mention status, putting it in the top 5% of 302 accepted (out of 1346 submitted). Our novel approach applying tabletop tangible user interaction (TTUI) to support visually impaired interaction formed the foundation of the EPSRC MultiVis 3 proposal with Bristol and, with new EU partners, the EU proposal ‘Mobyte’. These extended the work to consider how semi-autonomous physical objects (phicons) could be used to dynamically reconfigure the visualisation. Having shown for the first time how TTUIs could be employed, work investigating how phicons could communicate state non-visually has directly followed (10.1145/2049536.2049597, 10.1145/1979742.1979805).
