Significance of output:

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced polymer composites promise advanced material applications. If it was to be used as the primary structural material of an aircraft, there is significant performance and economics impact (e.g. potentially saving up to $10K per flight) as from reduction of weight and fuel consumption. The inability to incorporate aligned CNTs into the polymer matrix with high volume fraction has hindered the practical usage of these materials. The practical process reported here can be applied to achieve highest volume fraction of aligned CNTs, leading to the realisation of composites with desirable properties towards those practical applications.
