Significance of output:

Fore-and-aft vibration of backrests is one of the dominant causes of vibration discomfort influencing ride comfort, but no previous studies have considered how the location of contact at the back affects discomfort. This experimental study systematically examined how sensitivity to vibration at the back is influenced by contact location, contact area and body posture. Discomfort caused by fore-and-aft vibration at the back was found to be greatly dependent on the location of the back in contact with the seat back – information that is expected to lead to improvements to existing methods for evaluating vibration in transport (ISO 2631-1, 2001).
