Additional information

This is part of a continuing investigation into the factors affecting the performance of solar chimneys and passive solar heating devices for buildings. Whilst theory suggests that the height of the chimney is a key parameter, this cannot be verified from existing published experimental data. These experiments used three test rigs designed specifically to test this. The work is continuing to investigate airflow in solar chimneys using PIV and other techniques. This work has attracted interest from researchers, especially in hot countries, and a network is being formed to investigate related applications, such as solar chimneys coupled with evaporative cooling.
