Double-weighted statement

This book (442 pp.) is the first to present the liturgy from a northern German convent in its historic setting. This involved tracking down the 50 surviving manuscripts from Medingen in 26 libraries and seven years of research to reconstruct the religious movement behind the book production. The Manual for the provost is deciphered as a codicological, liturgical and musicological key document for understanding the late medieval reform movement and is edited with full music, double apparatus, illustrations and multiple indices. The volume thus provides a cultural history of the generation before the Lutheran Reformation in a unique monastic landscape.
