In this article Duncan was the key researcher with specialist knowledge into the media's use of social network sites. She conducted email interviews with 43 journalists regarding their attitudes and approaches to using social media in reporting the deceased and newsworthy bereaved, which was the empirical focus of this study. She led the development of the model of context, control and consent that provides a form of ethical co-operation for both the journalist and the bereaved relative.
