Double-weighted statement

Finger of a Frenchman took four full years to write and contains forty original poems, ranging from long poems, through prose poems and critical jeux d'esprit to shorter lyric verse. As such it is diverse in form and was based on substantial archival and field research in France and Scotland as well as a considerable programme of secondary reading; such work preceded the process of drafting and revision of the poems. It deploys poetry as a form of research to explore the cultural and intellectual relations binding Scotland and France over six centuries.
