Additional information

The findings of this work provide an in-depth explanation of the mechanism of transient nonlinear interactions taking place in long low tension slender continua deployed and moving at speed in high-rise vertical transportation systems. The work informed the development of an active control algorithm to suppress vibrations of elevator cables in high-rise, high-speed applications commissioned by a leading international elevator company and the concept was awarded an international patent.
