Additional information
Tungsten is the most important material for plasma facing applications in future commercial scale nuclear fusion tokamaks. There is a scarcity of data regarding its performance after neutron irradiation. This paper is one of 10 recent contributions to this field, and for the first time clustering of rhenium in dilute alloys is seen to lead to large increases in hardness. This work led directly to the award of a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship (value £690,000) for further work on radiation damage in refractory materials.
