Additional information

This paper introduces a completely new concept and metric, namely Pause Intensity, for quality assessment in the context of video streaming across the Internet and wireless networks. A strong correlation between this metric and the subjective test has been shown, which is lacking in the existing methods used currently. Extended results, built on this work, has been presented at the IEEE Communications Society’s flagship conference ICME2012 with an acceptance rate of 13% (http://www.icme2012.org/index.php). The follow-on work has been published in a highly rated journal: IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (DOI: 10.1109/TCSVT.2013.2270365).
