Additional information

This is the first study to investigate the clinical potential for adverse hip replacement wear caused by leg length inequality following total hip replacement surgery. The paper supports a clinical study by the authors indicating that leg length inequality is a top 5 cause of litigation in the UK/USA (doi:10.1302/0301-620X.95B1.30908). The work was supported by the Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit. Methodologies developed will be used to support the recent EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Medical Devices [EP/K029592/1]. 19 patients have undergone new clinical assessment by Martin Stone at Chapel Allerton Orthopaedic Hospital (Martin.Stone@leedsth.nhs.uk).
