Additional information

The paper, written in collaboration with Addenbrooke’s Hospital (contact: Clinical Director of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering at Addenbrooke’s Hospital), describes novel (DMU patent GB0821112) 2D thermal mapping of an ultrasonic transducer used in medical diagnosis. It was found that spot peak temperatures exceeded the IEC standard 6061-2-37 by 3.3+/-0.90C, which could have a direct effect on patient safety. The finding has resulted in the professional group re-writing the national/international IEC standard.
