Significance of output:

This paper contains the first demonstration of the use of the pulsed electroacoustic technique for the study of corona charging effects. This has provided unique insights into the underlying mechanisms and, specifically, has shown that bipolar charge injection occurs. Base on this, a novel bipolar charge injection model has been developed for both charging and decay processes which explain the surface potential decay crossover phenomenon; this has not been properly explained since its first observation in 1967. The work led to an international collaboration with state key electrical insulation laboratory at Xian Jiaotong University (sli@mail.xjtu.edu.cn).
