English abstract

This article explores the contemporary exegesis of the Qur'an and shows that - in contrast to a commonly held position in scholarship - contemporary exegesis is not merely repetitive, but is still productive, offering new interpretations of Qur'anic verses. It draws attention to regional differences in exegesis that have so far been neglected in scholarship, and it shows that the study of contemporary exegesis of the Qur'an needs to take into consideration the internet and its impact on the exegetical activities of Muslims.
