This chapter (no. 14) is published in an edited volume that presents the theoretical rationale, emerging trends and key empirical results of a major EU Network of Excellence on Technology-Enhanced Learning. The chapter draws together the mobile learning research strand of the network and builds on the co-authors' research to identify the key characteristics of mobile learning and explore how it contributes to the theory and practice of education. Vavoula's contribution to the chapter is 40%. She authored sections 14.2, 14.5, 14.6.1 (~35% of main text); contributed to section 14.3; and co-edited the full chapter.
