This work revealed an unusual structural rearrangement of calixarene derivatives forced by coordination with transitional metals, overcoming thermodynamic and kinetic factors. This has enabled further studies into this field, for example, potential development of derivatives as capsules for drug delivery or new crystal frameworks for gas sorption investigations.
