Analysis of Bacteria on Steel Surfaces Using Reflectance Micro-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
This paper, published in the most cited journal in Analytical Chemistry (I.F. 5.695), is the first study to describe the use of reflectance micro-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy for the direct analysis of bacteria on opaque/solid surfaces, in-situ, rapidly and without the need of sample preparation. This research focused on bacteria on steel; but has subsequently been applied to substrates such as plant leafs, marine sediments and microplastics. As a consequence of this work, I was invited to write a reference protocol for the analysis of microbes using Infrared spectroscopy, published in “Microbial Systems Biology: Methods and Protocols" (Humana series, Springer).
