Additional information

This paper investigates the design thinking approaches of three groups of student designers from (i) industrial design, (ii) architecture, and (iii) design PhD candidates. It is one of only four papers that were selected after a double-blind review for a Special Issue of the Design Studies journal on 'Articulating Design Thinking' with Rodgers as Guest Editor. The research is based on the notion that design thinking is key to innovation that in turn drives the wheels of the larger economy. This work is a development of the author’s earlier paper 'The Design Thinking Approaches of Three Different Groups of Designers Based on Self-Reports' in Rodgers, P.A. (Editor), Articulating Design Thinking, Libri Publishers, Faringdon, Oxfordshire, 2012, ISBN 978-1-907471-51-3. This book and the Design Studies Special Issue are outcomes from the 9th Design Thinking Research Symposium (DTRS) at Northumbria University’s School of Design, 18th - 19th April 2012.
