Additional information

This book was selected from papers presented at Material Worlds conference at Leicester University (2008) which celebrated Professor Susan Pearce’s contribution to the development of museum studies as an academic discipline. Dorsett’s chapter (based on his paper ‘Objects, knowledge and practice-led research’ and the plenary debate he chaired on ‘Objects and Experience’) examines the application of curatorial object-handling to the interpretive challenges of practice-led artist-researchers exhibiting in hospital environments. Set within three essays that relate Peircian semiotics to museum studies topics, this chapter was also outlined for medical audiences at Dorsett’s Royal Photographic Society's Combined Royal Colleges Medal Lecture (2012).
