Dimensional analysis of the earthquake-induced pounding between adjacent structures
Experimental and analytical work co-funded by Industry (SIKA), testing the suitability of steel-reinforced polymers (SRPs) for strengthening concrete structures, addressing for the first time issues (e.g. use of smooth bars) relevant to old buildings. In addition to verifying the good performance of these new materials, the paper also evaluates code procedures for members strengthened by SRPs and suggests improvements. The results of the study are particularly relevant for practice, hence are used by both the industrial sponsor (contact Head of SIKA Hellas R&D) and by code drafting committees (contact Chairman of Greek Code for Structural Interventions Committee tassiost@central.ntua.gr).
