Additional information

This invited paper was the first to apply high speed photography coupled with high frame rate Fourier analysis to the phenomenon of pulsing observed in close-coupled gas atomization. The paper received the Outstanding Technical Paper Award when presented at PowderMet (Metal Powder Industries Federation). This work was part of the EU IMPRESS project (Intermetallic Materials Processing in Relation to Earth and Space Solidification), a project shortlisted for best EU Funded Project in 2012.
