Additional information

The first instance of a femtosecond laser and a DualBeam SEM/FIB being coupled together to create a new tool, capable of faster 3D data collection. This led to a patent submission by Pollock, Mottura and Echlin on coupling pulsed lasers and DualBeam SEM/FIBs for 3D data collection, many other patents by FEI and Zeiss on related topics (e.g. US 8314410 B2), invited presentations at 3D Materials Science 2012, TMS 2013, M&M 2013, and a Microscopy Society of America Presidential Postoctoral Award. Zeiss has recently advertised a tool (the Auriga Laser) that features a pulsed laser for in-situ machining.
