This paper was the first to present the development and evaluation in a patient trial of foot orthoses made using an additive manufacturing technique. The design and manufacture processes described in this paper have been further developed through the €3.4M EC FP7 Project a-footprint (Ankle and Foot Orthotic Personalisation via Rapid Manufacturing; 228893; Newcastle funding €364k). The research described in the paper was a key part of the case for support. The first author (Pallari) has subsequently moved to join Peacocks Medical Group in the UK, where he is leading development of new products based on the technology (contact: Jari.Pallari@Peacocks.net).
