The AHRC-funded “Theatre Archive project” began in 2003, interrogating and re-interpreting British theatre between 1945 and 1968, providing a comprehensive revisionist critique. The project involved the collation and cataloguing of dispersed archives, the identification and location of missing scripts from the Lord Chamberlain’s collection, the creation of a website and blog, and the collection of an extensive Oral History archive of recollections from practitioners and audience members.

This output (“The Golden generation: New light on post-war British theatre) is the culmination of the AHRC-funded dimension of this project, presenting a new road map and analytical framework for post-war British theatre.
