Additional information

This paper describes a very useful refinement of the previously reported instrument. The new design uses a twin optical sensor arrangement, which removes the need for very accurate marking of the yarn required before. The twin sensor arrangement enables two time related data streams to be obtained, which can be analysed for calculating the velocity profile of the weft yarn. The instrument enables greater measurement accuracy, and paved the way for determining the ‘true weft insertion curve’ in air jet weaving, which has never been reported on before.
