Additional information

The introduction of low-power LED lighting is widespread in traffic lights, car headlamps and street lighting to name just three applications. The nature of these new lights, however, means that existing methods to measure the quality of light sources need to be revisited. A colour rendering index (CRI) is one such method which quantifies the ability of a light source to reproduce colours of objects compared with natural daylight. In this work, Luo has developed a new CRI based on a colour space previously published by Luo and reports experiment work to show that the new CRI outperforms the existing international standard.
