Additional information

The book drew on an equal distribution of research and writing.

Ponsonby wrote the sections on material culture (pp.53-147, except pp.63-6, 80-81, 97-9, 123-4), on almshouses (pp.182-200) and contributed sections using the 1851 census and nineteenth-century literature (pp.13, 21, 152-3, 156-7, 163, 178). She also researched the illustrations.

Hussey wrote the methodology chapters (pp.1-51, except pp.13, 21), undertook the data processing of inventories (Table p.39), some sections using diaries (pp.63-6, 80-81, 97-9, 123-4) and Old Bailey online material (pp.149-181, except pp.152-3, 156-7, 163, 178).

When illustrations are removed Hussey wrote approximately 97 pages and Ponsonby 95.
