Guo holds a Newton International Fellowship.. Researchers in Durham have developed a state-of-the-art galaxy formation model. C. Lacey has led the work on extending this model to make direct predictions for the far-infrared emission from dust in galaxies that is observed by Herschel, and is leading Durham's involvement in the Herschel-ATLAS survey, which is the largest extragalactic survey carried out with Herschel. Guo is working with Lacey and is using data from the Herschel-ATLAS survey to make accurate estimates of star formation rates in a large sample of galaxies in the nearby universe, and uses these to investigate how star formation rates depend on galaxy properties, galaxy environments, and redshift. She is using these results to put new and more stringent constraints on the theoretical models of galaxy formation developed both by her and by the group in Durham.
