Additional information

The detailed analysis of this National Grid funded work led to further contracts with EDF Energy and SSE (contact details available). NG's adoption of composite insulator technology was supported by this work, and its funding continues. In addition it gave the knowledge to develop the concept of composite cross-arms (SSE, NG) and the T-Pylon design (NG). The work was fed into the Smartlife Consortium which included NOs from 9 European countries, and which funded Rowland participation. This work has been built on by many research groups in e.g. Sweden (10.1109/TDEI.2010.5448085), Canada (10.1109/TDEI.2009.5128525) and Iran (10.1109/TDEI.2013.6518939).
