Additional information

Doubly-Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs) are the principal electrical generator hardware used in Wind Turbines. They use Stator Voltage Oriented Vector Control, and traditionally only the outer loop has been assumed to need careful tuning. This work showed, however, that the inner loop may be important in systems control, results which have now been recognised by many other groups (e.g. Universidad de Oviedo, Spain, DOI: 10.1049/iet-rpg.2012.0005, Chang Gung University, Taiwan DOI: 10.1109/TEC.2012.2190513, Curtin University of Technology DOI: 10.1109/TPEL.2010.2058816), and has been used in EPSRC research (EP/H018662/1) and a Northern Wind Innovation Project with Siemens (contact details available).
