Additional information

Using electric vehicles in the utility network to help manage power quality, local voltage and shift demand had been discussed conceptually, but not subjected to the critical analysis deployed in this publication. It showed that while much can be done using on-board electric vehicle technology, investment in electrical utility infrastructure is unavoidable. The results have since been used by many research groups, including the Technical University Denmark (DOI: 10.1016/j.epsr.2012.05.018), University of Illinois (DOI: 10.1109/TPEL.2012.2227500), University of Washington, Seattle (DOI: 10.1109/ITEC.2012.6243441) and McMaster University Department of Mechanical Engineering (contact details available; DOI: 10.1109/ITEC.2012.6243465).
