Additional information

State Estimation is pivotal to energy management in power system control centres. Without knowing the system state, it is impossible to run the system optimally and safely. The new estimator, developed through EPSRC project EP/G055211/1, is currently under scrutiny for Canada's major Transmission Network Operator (TNO), Hydro-Quebec, UK National Grid, and Scottish Power (contact details for all available). The UK TNOs and Alstom-Grid have already approved further research (£0.8m over three years). A new prototype is expected to be used in future Smart Grids. The work has been applied internationally, particularly in North America (e.g. doi:10.1109/TEC.2011.2168225, doi:10.1109/MSP.2012.2187037, doi:10.1109/TPWRS.2011.2175255).
