Additional information

<01> Smart grid aims at modernizing the power grid. This paper is among the first contributions to present the communication requirements of smart grid, which are essential for injecting smartness into the grid. The requirements are derived based on a thorough study of existing and emerging smart grid applications and services. The paper also proposes a number of design trends that could help to address challenges in the realisation of the smart grid. The work is important as the smart grid is of significant economic benefits.
