Additional information

This paper develops an ant colony optimization approach to extending the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. The work results from an international collaboration and has been applied to large-dimensional NP-hard problems with both single and multiple traffic flows (10.1109/ICoAC.2012.6416826). The research has been recognised by NXP Semiconductors for its potential in optimising wireless sensor networks for the 'internet of things' and home automation (Contact: Dr M. Bolt, NXP Asia Research Labs, michael.bolt@nxp.com). This has led to a collaboration with NXP in both Singapore and the Netherlands, leveraging PhD funding from the Singapore government.
