Additional information

The work was conducted in conjunction with an exchange student (J. Llanos) from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, under my supervision. The work used the atomic force microscope to characterize a ceramic membrane in four different operational states: new, new and cleaned, fouled and fouled and cleaned. The method showed the effects of cleaning on the membrane. The method also enabled the fouling propensity of the membrane to be related to the flux evolution when using the membrane for processing heavy metal contaminated fluids.
