A Particle Filter Approach to Respiratory Motion Estimation in Nuclear Medicine Imaging
This paper presents the first time that an adaptive approach has been used for motion correction in nuclear medicine imaging. This paper demonstrates that SIR particle filter, combined with an ICP-based registration method, can estimate the ‘unpredictable’ behaviour of internal organ motion caused by normal breathing . Several application-specific adaptations are used, including tracking registration parameters, rather than image volumes, in order to minimise the number of parameters requiring estimation. This work has been presented at invited seminars at UCLH, UMass (USA), and won the Cum Laude award at the 2011 SPIE Medical Imaging conference.
