<20> This paper represents an important milestone towards the broader adoption of assistive technologies in private homes. It introduces the foundations for substantially reduced turn-around times for deployments of assistive technologies. The work was the basis for a NIPS2010 workshop ("Machine Learning for Assistive Technology"). The developed system is the technological basis for one successfully finished follow-up project (Language Learning in the Wild; EPSRC; £162,525), and another ongoing project (Learning European Languages in a Digital Kitchen: Lancook; European Commission; £196,414).
